1. Download your apps
You can find these in Google (or your search engine of choice) by searching for "android apk download ".
Example sites which have apk files available:

Applications can also be downloaded directly from developers websites. Eg. http://www.lysesoft.com/products/andftp/#download
I suggest installing the 1mobile market app or an ftp client first so that you have an alternate method of installing apps or copying files.
2. Copy the downloaded file into the tftp server's home directory

From a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd) type ipconfig.

4. Test the IP address
Start the virtual machine
Launch the Terminal Emulator. This is usually on the last page of pre-installed apps.
Type
su root
ping 192.168.1.104 (your IP address from above)
Once you see a few messages like below, you can successfully connect to your host PC.
Type Ctrl+C to quit the ping command.

5. Copy the file from your host PC to the Android VM
While still in the terminal emulator change directory to your download directory, this should be:
cd /sdcard/Download
Now use tftp to copy the file, eg, if you are installing XE currency converter you should have downloaded it and copied it to the tftp server home directory
tftp -l com.xe.android.apk -g 192.168.1.104
(you need to replace the filename and ip address with your own filename and IP addres)
Now confirm that the file has been successfully copied
ls
You can now exit the terminal emulator
exit
exit
While still in the terminal emulator change directory to your download directory, this should be:
cd /sdcard/Download
Now use tftp to copy the file, eg, if you are installing XE currency converter you should have downloaded it and copied it to the tftp server home directory
tftp -l com.xe.android.apk -g 192.168.1.104

Now confirm that the file has been successfully copied
